OpenAI Unveils Voice-Based Features for Mobile ChatGPT, Enhancing User Flexibility and Productivity
View original sourceOpenAI announced on Wednesday the introduction of voice-based agentic features to its mobile app, enabling users to perform tasks such as drafting documents and summarizing emails directly with voice commands. This update, aimed primarily at Plus and Pro users, will allow them to make use of the Work tab on their phones for a range of activities:
- Creating documents
- Drafting emails
- Summarizing Slack messages
- Building websites
- Creating presentations
- Accessing cloud browsers and financial tools in ChatGPT
Meanwhile, Free and Go users will gain access to plugins and connected apps. OpenAI highlighted that ChatGPT’s voice conversations now produce richer text outputs, allowing users to switch seamlessly between text and voice and continue conversations initiated on mobile on their desktops. The integration of voice technology reflects the growing trend of using voice commands for AI-driven complex tasks.
In July, OpenAI introduced the GPT-Live conversational model for more natural live conversations, which they subsequently integrated into the desktop app. This new rollout extends similar capabilities to the mobile platform, further enhancing user productivity and flexibility. Competing with firms like Anthropic—which recently streamlined mobile and desktop interactions—OpenAI maintains separate chat and workspace functionalities.
