OpenAI Expands AI Education in India Through Key Academic Partnerships

OpenAI is expanding its presence in India by partnering with six major academic institutions to embed AI into the country's higher-education system.
The initiative aims to reach over 100,000 students, faculty, and staff across various disciplines such as engineering, management, healthcare, and creative fields over the next year.
Notable institutions include the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, and All India Institute of Medical Sciences New Delhi.
The focus is on integrating AI into academic workflows and training educators in responsible AI use, rather than consumer applications.
OpenAI is also collaborating with Indian ed-tech platforms like Physics Wallah, upGrad, and HCL GUVI to expand AI training beyond campuses.
The move marks a substantial effort by AI companies to shape AI education in India, a strategic market and talent ground.
The announcement comes as India hosts an AI Impact Summit, highlighting the country's significance in the global AI landscape.
Raghav Gupta, head of education at OpenAI India, emphasizes the role of educational institutions in bridging the gap between rapidly advancing AI tools and actual usage.
The partnerships include campus-wide access to ChatGPT Edu, faculty training, and certification programs for students.
