The growing energy demands of AI data centers have spurred innovative solutions to overcome power constraints. Aikido, an offshore wind developer, is set to test a bold initiative by submerging a 100-kilowatt demo data center off the coast of Norway in 2026, within floating offshore wind turbines.

This concept isn't entirely new. Microsoft previously tested underwater data centers in Scotland in 2018 with a successful trial, leading to several patents which it later open-sourced in 2021. However, the tech giant phased out its Project Natick by 2024.
