Adobe Launches AI Assistant in Photoshop and Enhances Firefly with New Features

Adobe has unveiled a new AI assistant for Photoshop, now available to users in beta via the web and mobile apps, with an expanded toolkit for its Firefly media generation tool. This rollout, first announced during Adobe's MAX event in October, brings AI capabilities such as:

  • Object or people removal from images
  • Adjusting colors and lighting
  • Natural language prompts for image modifications, such as adding a glow or transforming backgrounds

Paid Photoshop users can utilize unlimited generations of these features until April 9, while free users start with 20 generations.

Additionally, Adobe introduces an AI markup feature, allowing users to create markers on-screen and use the AI assistant for transformations like object removal or modifications.

Firefly receives enhancements including:

  • Generative Fill: Adding or replacing objects
  • Generative Remove: Object removal
  • Generative Expand: Increasing image size with AI
  • Generative Upscale: Enhanced image scaling
  • Background Removal Tool: One-click feature

To boost Firefly's usage, Adobe has integrated over 25 third-party video and image-generation models such as Google’s Nano Banana 2 and OpenAI’s Image Generation.
