Elon Musk Announces Ambitious Chip Manufacturing Venture in Austin

Elon Musk has unveiled plans for a new chip manufacturing initiative, dubbed the "Terafab" facility, in collaboration between his companies Tesla and SpaceX. The announcement was made during a Saturday night event in downtown Austin, Texas, near Tesla’s Austin headquarters and giga-factory. Musk disclosed that:

• The project is aimed at addressing the slow pace of current semiconductor manufacturers in meeting the artificial intelligence and robotics needs of his companies.
• The "Terafab" is intended to produce chips capable of delivering 100 to 200 gigawatts of computing power annually on Earth, and potentially a terawatt in space.
• Musk did not specify a timeline for the completion of these plans.
