Tubi Becomes First Streaming Service to Launch App Within ChatGPT

View original source

Tubi, a Fox-owned streaming service, has made headlines with the launch of a native app within ChatGPT on Tuesday. This innovation allows users to explore Tubi's vast collection of over 300,000 movies and TV episodes more easily. Unlike its competitors like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, who have embedded AI recommendations within their platforms, Tubi is breaking new ground by offering a dedicated experience inside ChatGPT.

  • Users can install the Tubi app from the ChatGPT app store and use natural-language prompts like “a thriller for girls’ night” or “something funny” to receive curated recommendations.
  • The move signals a significant shift as Tubi leverages ChatGPT's vast user base of 900 million weekly active users, combining Tubi's more than 100 million monthly active users.
  • Previously, Tubi experimented with AI through "Rabbit AI," a personalized content discovery feature that launched in 2023 but was discontinued.
  • The new integration underscores the intense competition in the streaming market, where user attention is scarce, pushing platforms to innovate for better content discovery.
  • Separately, Tubi also announced its "Creatorverse Incubator," a program that supports emerging content creators, offering promotional and funding opportunities for exclusive shows.

OpenAI's initiative to allow app development within ChatGPT dates back to October, and several companies, including Booking.com, Canva, and Spotify, have since launched similar integrations. SeatGeek recently joined this list.
