OpenAI Partners with Infosys to Boost AI Integration in IT Services

OpenAI has formed a partnership with Infosys to integrate its artificial intelligence tools, including the coding assistant Codex, into Infosys's Topaz AI platform. This collaboration aims to:

  • Modernize software development for Infosys's clients.
  • Automate workflows and implement large-scale AI systems.
  • Initially target areas like software engineering, legacy modernization, and DevOps.

Infosys, amidst challenges such as reduced client spending and the rapid growth of generative AI, sees this partnership as crucial. Infosys shares have dropped over 22% this year, influenced by a broader market sell-off due to forecasts that AI tools could reduce traditional outsourcing, compounded by the macroeconomic impacts of the U.S.-Iran war.

This move aligns with a growing trend where AI firms partner with global IT services to facilitate AI adoption in large enterprises. OpenAI previously worked with HCLTech, and Infosys collaborated with Anthropic on similar initiatives.

Infosys recognized the importance of expanding its AI business by reporting that AI-related services contributed approximately ₹25 billion (about $267 million) in revenue for the December quarter. OpenAI, through Codex Labs, aims to establish a distribution network with partners like Accenture, Capgemini, CGI, Cognizant, PwC, and Tata Consultancy Services to further the wide-scale use of Codex, which boasts over 4 million weekly active users.

Financial specifics of the deal between OpenAI and Infosys were not disclosed.
