View original source

On Friday, OpenAI launched a new set of personal finance tools in preview for ChatGPT Pro subscribers in the U.S. These tools allow users to connect their financial accounts and inquire about various financial aspects like spending analysis and future planning.

  • Partnership with Plaid: OpenAI has teamed up with Plaid, enabling connections with over 12,000 financial institutions such as Schwab, Fidelity, Chase, Robinhood, American Express, and Capital One.
  • Functionality: Once accounts are linked, users can access a dashboard displaying their portfolio performance, spending patterns, active subscriptions, and upcoming payments.
  • Background: This launch follows OpenAI's acquisition of the team behind personal finance startup Hiro, which occurred in April. Hiro's financial expertise was instrumental in this development.
  • Tool Usage: Users can activate the tool by selecting “Get started” in the “Finances” option or typing commands in a ChatGPT conversation. Guidance for account linking through Plaid is provided.
  • Future Support: OpenAI plans to integrate Intuit soon, facilitating advanced financial analyses related to actions like stock sales and credit card approvals.
  • Integration Details: The updated GPT-5.5 model improves contextual reasoning, essential for financial queries. Feedback from more than 200 million finance query users per month was utilized.
  • Security and Settings: Users manage connections via the app settings, with options to remove or delete data. Financial memories can also be deleted.
  • Specialization Trend: Companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are creating sector-specific AI products, previously launching health-related tools and competing in the personal finance field. The tools are currently available on web and iOS for Pro users, with expansion plans based on user feedback.
