Google Unveils New AI-Powered Smart Speaker with Gemini Integration

Google has launched a new Google Home Speaker priced at $99.99. The speaker is a significant step for Google as it bets on its Gemini AI technology to reinvent the smart speaker experience.
The new device is the first standalone smart speaker introduction since the Nest Audio in September 2020, an era when smart speakers were primarily seen as controllers for smart homes and music systems.
The Gemini AI in the new speaker enhances user interaction by allowing natural language processing. Users can make multistep requests and corrections mid-sentence, making commands more conversational.
Features include 10 new voices for two-way conversations, and the Continued Conversation feature keeps the microphone on briefly for follow-up questions.
Design-wise, it has a similar look to older versions but introduces a new ring light at the bottom to indicate its status. It is available in different color options: Jade, Berry, Hazel, and Porcelain.
Google is introducing a Google Home Premium subscription plan for $10/month or $100/year, including advanced AI features such as Gemini Live for free-flowing conversations and home activity analysis.
Google offers a six-month free trial for these advanced features to encourage adoption.
The device is currently available for preorder and will ship later this month.
