Adobe Acquires Topaz Labs to Boost AI Video and Image Enhancement Capabilities

Adobe has announced its acquisition of Topaz Labs, a company renowned for its AI models aimed at video and image enhancement. Topaz Labs has been operational for over two decades and has garnered prestige with an Emmy award for its production technology. Recently, it has developed models like Astra for AI video upscaling and Wonder for image retouching and enhancement. The acquisition aims to integrate Topaz’s advanced AI capabilities into Adobe’s Firefly AI app and other parts of its suite, while also offering Topaz’s tools as stand-alone services via Adobe’s website.

• Deepa Subramaniam, VP of product marketing for Creative Cloud at Adobe, emphasized that Topaz Labs’ technology will enhance Adobe’s AI capabilities, allowing for on-device running of large AI models and making advanced AI tools more cost-effective and accessible for creatives.
• The move comes as Adobe faces stiff competition from Canva and Blackmagic Design, emphasizing the need to develop its AI-driven offerings further and retain users within its ecosystem.
• The acquisition is expected to finalize in the second half of 2026.
