Enigma Startup Launches Large-Scale Experiment to Revolutionize Human-Robot Interaction

View original source

Enigma, a new robotics research startup, aims to transform the way humans interact with robots by focusing on intuitive interfaces and unexampled robotic brains. Co-founded by Jonathan Jacobi and Gal Niv, former members of Israel's elite Unit 8200, the startup emerged with strong financial backing, raising $71 million from Index Ventures and Ribbit Capital. Enigma plans to host an online experiment involving over 100 proprietary AI robots performing diverse tasks from artistic to chemistry experiments in hangars located in Israel and California. The key objectives are to identify optimal communication methods between humans and robots: via text, audio, or visual cues; and discovering intuitive interfaces similar to adjusting a car's volume knob. By leveraging a team of innovative tech experts, Enigma hopes to advance robotic interaction experiences. Despite withholding specific use cases, Jacobi hinted at partnerships in healthcare, logistics, and entertainment. The startup seeks to solve one of AI’s hardest challenges—creating robots capable of handling tasks they weren't explicitly trained for—by focusing on the user's experiences and preferences.
